matthew gallaway: A Few Notes On Overgentrification

matthewgallaway:

There’s an opinion piece in today’s NYT that blames the “overgentrification” of West Chelsea — specifically the influx of high-end retail, exorbitant residential towers, and vapid tourists — on the High Line Park, which if you haven’t heard of it is the elevated railway that’s being transformed…

Since Matthew aka white gentrifier from the Midwest does not have an ask box or a disqus reply to his tumblr, I’ll respond here. Of, course he’ll defend the High Line. He doesn’t know what was here before he came here, and the NYC he came into has been welcoming to his type, the white Midwesterners pushing out the working class, the artists, bohemians, the poor, etc. Just because you have written a book does not make you an artist, Gallaway. Talk about hypocrisy. I don’t think you would have survived in, what do your generation call it now— WaHi, 10 years ago. You’re fortunate that you are white and that Bloomberg’s NYC is all bout the white, esp. the riches. So, STFU, unless you know the plight of the non-whites, working class, the poor. It is a generational war and a class war. Your generation is all about the rich and being white. White gentrifiers are myopic.

(Had to come back to tumblr so that I can hold up a mirror to Matthew Gallaway’s generation of narcissistic blind gentrifiers hypocricy.)

heureux hasard -- "fortunate chance", a translation of serendipity in French

serendipity -- the effect by which one accidentally stumbles upon something fortunate, especially while looking for something entirely unrelated.
